WHAT:
Structured activities from 2PM - 4PM
MAIN ROOM: optional large group ice-breakers followed by short 1:1 (or small group) conversations for 5-7mins.
QUIET ROOM: small group conversations (topics supplied or DIY)
MEN’S ROOM: for the second hour a space will be designated for men to meet and do some facilitated activities together to foster connection - open to all men who want to connect with other men
REAR COURTYARD: free-range mingling (conversation cards supplied if wanted)

Melbourne Comedian, Author and Broadcaster Nelly Thomas is running a monthly 'Dating and Connection' event for LGBTIQA+ folks over the age of 40 in Victoria.
Nelly is the host of Dear Nelly: Sex, Relationships and Dating on the other side of 40 - an 'agony aunt' podcast where Nelly and a special guest talk about sex and relationships and take calls from listeners. One of the most common questions is from from people over 40 who don't know how to meet someone if they don't like the apps. So, she set up this event to help them - and you - on this exciting, but sometimes daunting, journey in all it’s glorious forms.
Nelly has also been navigating dating herself in her forties - and now fifties - and has also encountered the same challenges. Many LGBT events are skewed young, start late, are in loud venues and have a party focus. Mama ain't into that!
Nelly has a background in sex and relationships education. All her events are very relaxed, facilitated and consent is paramount. No activities are forced. The vibe is a community get-together with people your own age for DATES, MATES or CONNECTION.
Nelly works hard at each event to help people who are a bit shy or need some support and there are always 'safe people' volunteers there to lend a hand. Many people come alone and many are not experienced daters. All are welcome.
WHY:

We want real connection & conversation.
We're not into loud music, endless partying, swiping and all that other stuff!
Old Fashioned Romance is not mandatory but it sure is encouraged.
Effort is hot.
Good, clear communication and boundaries are encouraged.
WHO IS OVER THE RAINBOW FOR?
Everyone under the LGBTIQA+ rainbow is welcome as long as you are over the age of 40.
All genders will be adored!
All sexualities will be loved!
If you're shy, Nelly and the safe people will lend a hand.
If you came out later in life, we welcome you into the community.
Rural and Regional folks encouraged to attend: farmer wants a husband! Milkmaid wants a wife!

There will be some structured activities but nothing will be forced. There will be 'chillout' and 'quiet' spaces available. Consent and Respect - of all kinds - will be paramount. There will be designated 'safe people' to give you a hand and some support if you need. Come together in a relaxed and safe space with people your own age where you might meet a date, a friend or someone you'd like to introduce to a friend.
